Asin Thottumkal known as Asin (born 26th October, 1985 in Kochi, India) is a very popular south Indian actress. Even though Asin debuted in Malayalam, eventually she made a big breakthrough in Telugu and Tamil cinema industries. The name Asin is the combination of the prefix "A" from the Sanskrit language and the word "Sin" from the English language. It means - "Without blemish or pure".


Asin has completed her B.A. English Literature at St. Teresa's College, Kochi. She has shifted from her home town Kochi to Chennai, where she stays on Harrington Road. Although, asin is a native speaker of Malayalam, she speaks Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Sanskrit, English and French. Before becoming an actress, Asin was a part-time model and a businesswoman.



Asin Thottumkal debuted in the Malayalam film Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in 2001, directed by Sathyan Anthikkad but it did not do well at the box-office. Her breakthrough as an actress came with her first Telugu language film when she played the role of a Tamil girl in the successful Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja.
